Power Window Motor
In cars with power windows, the power window motor is the heart of the operation which makes this convenience possible. As one would imagine, the power window motor gets tremendous amounts of use over the course of a vehicle’s life, perhaps more than any other part. That being the case, it is not uncommon for power window motors to eventually wear out and stop working, necessitating replacement. It is important to be aware that power windows can stop working for a number of reasons. There are several different components of the power window system, each of which is subject to breakage at some point in its life. Failure of the power window regulator is another common culprit in faulty windows, in addition to deteriorated window tracks, rubber seals, and pulleys or cables. Still, the most common problem in malfunctioning windows is the power window motor.

Power Window Motor Replacement Guide
Many novice mechanics are naturally intimidated by the prospect of a do-it-yourself power window motor replacement. Despite the fact that the motor is buried within the door panels, replacing the motor is actually a relatively easy and quick fix, provided you prepare yourself with the appropriate tools and knowledge. The first step is to remove the interior door panel. These are typically fastened to the door with screws, which may be covered by plastic screw caps. Next, the power window switch housing must be pried from the armrest. Use a screwdriver to dislodge it, but exercise caution so as not to accidentally damage nearby surfaces. With the door panel and switch removed, locate the power window motor. This is usually identifiable as a small rectangular box with several wires connecting it to the power window switch. Disconnect the wires and mount your new power window motor.
Window Regulator Replacement
If you need to replace the regulator along with the power window motor, the process is slightly more detailed. With the door panel removed, use the switch to lower the window until you are able to access the bolts which connect the regulator to the bottom of the window. With the regulator removed, manually push the window all the way up and secure it in place. Heavy duty tape is suitable for propping up the window. With the regulator removed, loosen the bolts which hold the power window motor housing in place, and be sure to save the bolts.
Attach the new regulator to the bottom of the window, then insert the new power window motor and secure the bolts on each piece. Be sure that the window is properly seated in the regulator, and try rolling the window all the way up and down prior to reassembling the door panel. If the window is off track, crooked, or cannot go all the way down or up, you need to reseat the window in the regulator.
